	About Mike Gin
	Mike is currently serving as a field deputy for Los Angeles Supervisor Don Knabe. Mike represents Supervisor Knabe in the communities of San Pedro, Wilmington, Harbor City, Westfield, Academy Hill, and the cities of Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling, Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates. Mike previously served as District 3 Councilman for the City of Redondo Beach from 1995-2003 and retired from the City Council due to term limits. Prior to his election to the City Council in March 1995, Mike was Vice-Chairman of the Redondo Beach Planning Commission (member from 1992-1995) and was previously Chairman of the Redondo Beach Preservation Commission (member from 1989-1992). Mike has also served as an alternate Director of the Los Angeles County Sanitation District and an alternate Director of the South Bay Council of Governments. Mike's interests in youth and education issues allowed him to serve as Chairman of Redondo Beach's City Council/School Board Subcommittee. Mike also served on the Board of Directors for the Independent Cities Association. On March 2, 1999, Mike was reelected without opposition to his seat on the Redondo Beach City Council. Listed below are some of Mike’s accomplishments while he served our community as Councilman:
	Negotiated with Los Angeles County to provide over $7M in flood control improvements for our community. With the successful partnership with the Friends of the Redondo Beach Dog Park, worked to ensure that funding was available to complete and open the highly successful Redondo Beach Dog Park. Worked with City Staff to ensure that various improvements to Dominguez Park were implemented (Heritage Court, new playground equipment, etc.) Placed a high priority on various infrastructure improvements throughout the City including: Street Resurfacing Projects Playground Equipment Replacement Projects Flood Control Projects Sewer Repairs First Chairman of the City Council/School Board Subcommittee. The Subcommittee formed to improve relations and forge partnerships between the City and the School District on issues of mutual interest and concern. With former Councilwoman Marilyn White, negotiated with Restaurants Unlimited, Inc. to bring Kincaid’s Restaurant to the Redondo Beach Pier. Worked with neighborhood residents to come up with a consensus plan for upgrades to Fulton Playfield. New amenities included terraced slopes, new shrubs and vegetation, decomposed granite walkways, new drinking fountains and benches, and a new baseball backstop.

	Mike has served as a Counselor and panel speaker for the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation seminars (HOBY). HOBY brings together outstanding high school sophomores from throughout California to participate in its annual leadership seminar. The students interact personally with various business, community, and political leaders and talk about current issues and problems. Mike was a high school student ambassador in the HOBY program in 1978. In 1993, Mike was honored by the Redondo Beach Jaycees and the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce as "Young Man of the Year" for his dedication and years of service to the Redondo Beach community. In 1999, Mike was one of seven Chinese-American municipal elected officials in LA County honored with CAUSE's (Chinese Americans United for Self-Empowerment) "Citizen of the Year" award for contributions and service to the LA Chinese-American community. In 1999, Mike was selected as one of fourteen elected officials from across the country selected to participate in the Elected Officials Leadership Academy sponsored by the Asian Pacific Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) in Washington, DC. Prior to joining Infonet, Mike was a Senior Member of the Technical Staff with TRW in Redondo Beach, CA. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California in 1984. In his spare time, Mike enjoys snow skiing, working out, and playing the piano.
